Non-Degree Program in China Studies (2017)

1.    Academic Target and Goals

The China Studies Program is specially designed for the international students who are going to study Chinese contemporary economics, diplomatic, overseas Chinese communities, Chinese culture and arts, and Chinese language system.  This program, to a certain extent, lays the foundation for international students to do further research on China Studies by developing both their knowledge about Chinese culture and society and their practical Chinese language skills.

2.    Curriculum

Language module includes:

1) Writing which focuses on narrative, expository, practical, and other genres of writing; 2) Public speaking which prepares students for personal statement, brainstorm, individually interview, summary remarks, comprehensive oral presentations so as to improve students' overall communicative competence.

Knowledge module includes:

1Chinese foreign policy, covering the development and changes of diplomacy of the People's Republic of China since 1949 ,  main problems and challenges that the contemporary Chinese diplomacy is facing2Trade and investment in China, covering knowledge and status about trade and investment in China as well as hot issues3Overseas Chinese communities, covering the history of overseas Chinese and Chinese community as well as the role of them in China's opening up and reform4Chinese culture and art works, covering reading works of Chinese calligraphy, carving, painting, gardening, architecture, martial arts and music which helps students acquire the knowledge of above mentioned topics and raise ability to conduct discussion on them .

3.    Length of Program and Application Deadline


Start from Spring Semester every academic year, deadline is December 31.

4.       Application Qualifications

Applications are open to foreign citizens with reliable financial support and stability who are senior-high-school graduates with an age between 18 and 50 and in good health. Chinese proficiency of New HSK level 5 with scores above or equal to 180 is also required.

5.       Application Materials

1) A printed copy of SISU Online Application Form

2) Photocopy of diploma.

3) Photocopy of passport.

4) 2 passport photos (in size of 5cm * 4cm).

5) Application fee: 450 RMB (or 75 USD).
