Independent recruitment of Master’s Degree and Bachelor’s Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (TCSOL)

 

Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) is an internationally recognized, prestigious academic institution distinctive for its multidisciplinary and multicultural nature, committed to preparing innovative professionals and future global leaders for a wide range of international expertise to address the critical challenges of our times.

 

In 2019, our school in cooperation with Hanban has established the “Shanghai International Studies University Confucius Institute Scholarship”, taking Independent recruitment according to the standards stipulated in Hanban’s Scholarship Guide. The scholarship provides funding for Master’s Degree (15 students) and Bachelor’s Degree (20 students) in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (TCSOL)

 

ELIGIBILITY

a) non-Chinese citizens;

b) in good physical and mental condition, with good academic performance and conduct;

c) committed to the teaching and international promotion of the Chinese language;

d) between the ages of 16 and 35 as of September 1st, 2019. Applicants currently working as Chinese language teachers shall not be over 45, while undergraduate student applicants shall not be over 25.

 

SCHOLARSHIP TYPES AND QUALIFICATIONS

A.      Scholarship for Master’s Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (MTCSOL)

The program commences in September 2019 and provides scholarship for a maximum of two academic years. Applicants shall hold a Bachelor’s degree, and have a minimum score of 210 on the HSK Test (Level 5) as well as 60 on the HSKK test (Intermediate Level). Priority will be given to applicants who may provide a work contract with a teaching institution or relevant proof upon completing their studies in China.  

 

B.      Scholarship for Bachelor’s Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (BTCSOL) 

The program commences in September 2019 and provides scholarship for a maximum of four academic years. Applicants shall hold a high school diploma and a minimum score of 210 on the HSK Test (Level 4) as well as 60 on the HSKK test(Intermediate Level).  

 

 

Application Procedure

a)       Log on to Confucius Institute Scholarship Website (cis.chinese.cn), choose Cooperative Confucius Institute Scholarship

 

b) Contact and select recommending institutions:

Confucius Institutes and Confucius classrooms which have been in operation for more than six months. For more information, please refer to www.hanban.org.Testing centers for Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) which have the right to recommend Confucius Institute Scholarship candidates. For information, please refer to www.chinesetest.cn. (ECNU is eligible to recommend).Oversea organizers of Chinese Bridge Competition: education and cultural offices (groups) of China’s oversea embassies (consulates), Confucius Institute and relevant educational institutions. c) Select Scholarship Category: Master’s Degree/ Bachelor’s Degree in Chinese major

 Select major: Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (TCSOL)

 Select school: Shanghai International Studies University

 

d) Review:School will review the eligibility of applicants. A skype interview is required.

e) Admission Notice: After confirming with the successful applicants, school will post the Admission documents. The copy of the scholarship certificate can be print out from the CIS website.

 

The number of scholarship students and application period

Scholarship for Master’s Degree in TCSOL: 15 students.

Scholarship for Bachelor’s Degree in TCSOL: 20 students.

Application Period: March 1st, 2019 – May 20th, 2019

* School will stop enrollment when the scholarship quota is full.

 

Application Documents

a) a scanned copy of passport photo page

b) a scanned copy of score reports of the HSK and HSKK tests (within the two-year validity).

c) a reference letter by the head of the recommending institutions

d) a certification of the highest education diploma (or proof of expected graduation) and an official transcript.

e)applicants of the Scholarship for Master’s Degree in TCSOL students are required to provide 2 reference letters from professors or associate professors. Priority will be given to Applicants who may provide a work contract with a teaching institution or relevant proof upon completing their studies in China.

* Applicants currently working as Chinese language teachers shall provide proof of employment as well as a reference letter by the employer.Applicants under the age of 18 shall provide certified documents of designation signed by their entrusted legal guardians in China.

 

Confucius Institute Scholarship Coverage and Criteria

The Confucius Institute Scholarship provides full scholarship consisting of tuition fee, accommodation fee, living allowance and comprehensive medical insurance expenses.

The allowance criteria per person are: BTCSOL: RMB2,500 per month. MTCSOL: RMB3,000 per month

Dorms: University provides on-campus dormitory with double beds for scholarship students. Students hoping to live off-campus should apply to the university and receive the off-campus permission from the university. Then the accommodation allowance per month per person is RMB700 per month per person.

Notice

Students are subject to the annual assessment. Those who fail to register on time, fail to pass the health assessment, drop out midway and/or are suspend from school will be deprived of their scholarship.
