Overview

Shanghai International Studies University(SISU) provides unique international experience for students, faculty and researchers from all over the world to interact across national, cultural and linguistic borders. Currently, SISU has established Agreements or MOU on student exchange with more than 340 universities, cultural and educational institutions and international organization from 56 countries and regions all over the world. Foreign students who are willing to participate in the exchange program and study at SISU may inquire the International Offices of their home universities for more information.

Admissions to Student Exchange Program

The program lasts one or two semesters, with the fall semester beginning in the middle of September and the Spring semester in late February.

1.Qualification of Applicants

(1) Student Exchange Agreement (or MOU) signed between home university and SISU

(2) Recommended by the home university

(3) At least one year study finished at home university

2. Required Documents

(1) Fill the SISU Application Form online.

(2) Certificate of studies in home university.

(3) Motivation letter/ Study plan.

(4) Letter of reference / nomination by the international office of the home university.

(5) Photocopy of passport.

(6) 2 passport photos (in size of 5cm * 4cm).

3. Application Procedure

(1) Apply first to your home university and get a nomination place.

(2) The home university should first send the nomination list to us.

(3) Complete On-line Application on the website of International Students Office, Shanghai International Studies University(http://oisa.shisu.edu.cn) and upload the required documents online.

4. Application Procedure

For spring semester study: before November 15

For fall semester study: before May 15

5. Training Courses:

(1) Mandarin courses offered in the mornings include Comprehensive Chinese (grammar, conversation, and Chinese characters), Chinese Listening Comprehension, Chinese Reading and Chinese Conversation of various levels. (20 class hours per week and 340 class hours per semester, and 1 class hour=45mins).

(2) English-taught courses offered in the afternoons

★ Exchange students will receive a list of English-taught courses at the beginning of each semester and may sign up for them with the academic office. (2 class hours per week for each course and 30 class hours per semester) (Annex II of this document are the lists for the YEAR 2016 and YEAR 2017 which can be a reference for the coming exchange students).

(3) Optional courses offered in the afternoons comprise HSK Tutoring, Chinese Modern History, Modern Literature, Security Investment, International Investment, Chinese-Foreign Cultural Exchange History, E-Business; Chinese Characters Writing, Calligraphy, Taiji boxing, Chinese Elocution, etc.

★ About the transcripts: Normally, the exchange students should collect the transcripts by themselves in the end of the semester according to the dates published by the academic office.

★ All the above courses are in HongKou campus.

6. Training Courses:

The application materials will be reviewed and examined by Office of International Student Affairs(OISA) of SISU. Once approved, it will take 2 or 3 weeks to prepare the admission documents and then send back to the home university via express. The applicants may inquire for admission status via the On-line Application System on the website of OISA.

7. Transcripts and Credits.

As the credit system is different between China and the other countries, all the exchange students will get a transcript of their Chinese courses or English-taught courses, in which the total class hours and the remarks are written. Exchange students can change to the local credits on the basis of the class hours we provide.

★Remarks: Normally, exchange students should collect the transcripts by yourselves by the end of semester, otherwise there is an appoint between the home and host university that SISU should send the transcripts together to the home university.

8. Accommodation

The exchange students under university-level agreements/MOU may choose to live on-campus or off-campus. Online reservation for on-campus dormitory within a predetermined time is required. Off-campus accommodation is not provided by SISU and you must handle this by yourself if you don’t reserve on-campus dormitory online.
